I have to be honest and upfront with you guys. I was not expecting to fall in love with these products. I had been trying out a bunch of new hair products that had come in my Sephora Play box and they were just like ‘eh, ok’. But when I first dipped my fingers into the cold, thick cream of the Murumuru hair mask, I knew this was different. This was legit.
My friends at Natura Brasil sent me three products to test out: the Castanha Texturizing Spray, Pataua Hair Oil, and the Murumuru Reconstructive Hair Mask. I’ll be transparent with you – in exchange, if I liked the products, was that I was to create an Instagram post of my hair styled with the products. Well, honestly I freaking loved these products so much that I felt like one post wasn’t doing these products justice. So I wanted to share my full experience of these products to let you know there is a new hair/skincare company on the US market and they ain’t playin’ around. Here’s my honest review after using these products for 1.5 weeks.
Before I get into the products, what/who is Natural Brasil? From their website, Natura Brasil is a skin and hair care company headquartered in Brazil that began in 1969. Their focus is maintaining bio-diversity in both their ingredients and charity work (which is focused on environmental sustainability and transparency). As a CPA, I can get down with the transparency aspect :o)
THE CLAIM:
Castanha Texturing Spray: A styling spray infused with Brazilian Castanha Oil that creates volume, texture, and hold to mimic a fresh-off-the-beach look.
Pataua Hair Oil: This transformative multi-tasking hair oil is concentrated with restorative Brazilian Patauá Oil to replenish and strengthen damaged hair.
Murumuru Reconstructive Hair Mask: A restorative hair mask that helps repair dry, damaged, or over processed hair.
Packaging: 5/5 Stars
The packaging system for all three products is great. It’s a combination of smooth and matte thick plastics and honestly just feels good in your hand. Also, no leaks, at all! Huzzah!
Castanha Texturing Spray: 4.8/5 Stars
The formula is clear and has a wonderful light coconut scent. I applied this product in the following two ways: 1. Sprayed directly on the inner layers of my hair on top of my head and then scrunched with my hand to create volume and 2. Sprayed onto my fingers which I then worked from the middle to bottom of locks of my hair. The first method was pretty effective at creating some extra volume (but I feel that an aerosol hairspray would provide a similar effect). But where this product really works it’s magic is in creating that piecey/beachy tousled lock effect when applied using method 2.
The only reason I’ve knocked two decimal points off is for price. This product is $25 for 3.3 fluid ounces of product. There’s no doubt that this product does what it says and is high quality (and smells good!) but it’s a bit high in my opinion. I would expect the price to be more around $18.
Pataua Hair Oil: 4.8/5 Stars
The formula has a yellowish tint and has a light ocean/beach smell (very pleasant). I applied this to the middle/ends of my hair to smooth out areas of frizz and damage. It did the job and a little goes a long way. Again, I’m not giving it the full 5 stars for price point (also retails for $25). The product is both effective and smells wonderful (I get spa vibes when I use it) but I feel that there are many other drugstore hair oils that are a fraction of the price and similarly effective. But at the same time, I have bought other hair oils where the packaging has leaked and this one has not leaked at all – so that might be the reason for the price difference.
Murumuru Restorative Hair Mask: 5/5 Stars
This mask you guys. This. Mask. This is a true hair treat. Again, like the other Natura Brasil products – it smells amazing. It’s a combo of coconut and eucalyptus (eucalyptus is my favorite scent, so I might be a little biased there). I like that the container has a little cover after you unscrew the cap. It’s easy to pop on and off in the shower to prevent the product from being watered down.
What I especially like about this mask is that it is luxuriously thick, like thicker than guacamole. But, where other thick creams can be too slippery and tend to not adhere to my hair and slip off only to fall in a glob on the shower floor – this one holds up! It was very easy to work into my hair (I applied this to the middle-to-ends of my hair and left on for about 5 minutes) and left it silky smooth after blow drying. Giving it the full five stars because a little goes a long way in terms of usage and I really do feel it’s worth the money here (retails for $9-$25). I love it and have been using it once a week. Pro tip: You can mix the Pataua Hair Oil with the mask for an even more hydrating hair mask.
Overall:
Good For:
- Damaged/dry hair
- All hair types
- Traveling (meets oz restriction and packaging hasn’t leaked at all for me)
- Gifts for friends/family
Not Ideal For:
- The budget conscious
- Oily hair
I was impressed with the high quality of these products overall and their scents (fragrant but not at all overpowering). The products apply very luxuriously and make me feel like I’m at a spa. I would say that this brand is very similar to other high-quality skin and haircare brands such as Aveda and Origins. It had me scoping out the Natura Brasil website for other items to check out. Here’s what is currently on my beauty wish list to try out next:
- Maracujá Creamy Exfoliating Soap (good for prepping for sunless tanning!)
- Daily Revitalizing Oil
- Castanha Nourishing Shampoo
Have you tried Natura Brasil? What products did you try and what did you think?
