Looking for great places to brunch in DC? I recently posted a TikTok about what I thought was the 🌟perfect🌟 basic girl weekend, which mostly centered around the most important of meals: brunch. The feedback from that video was…strong to say the least. In the video I mentioned two well-known DC brunch places, but many were angry that I didn’t list their favorite brunch place.
So I asked ya’ll on IG Stories – what is your favorite trendy brunch place in DC? Well, here are the results (including my personal faves as well)!
1. Le Dipolmate
- Price: $$$
- Neighborhood: Logan Circle
- Address: 1601 14th St NW, Washington, DC 20009
- Mimosa Situation: $12/each, but lots of other brunch cocktails (I personally recommend the Petite Ruse)
- Reservation: Don’t even try to go without one.
- COVID Precautions: Outdoor stall seating with forced air HVAC. You can also purchase blankets for $20 each.
Arguably one of the most ‘basic’ restaurants in DC, and by basic I mean popular. This is the go-to spot. Good french inspired dishes, inventive and delicious brunch cocktails, and ideally located in the center of the 14th Street shopping district make this one of DC’s top brunch destinations. Check out their menu here.
Definitely worth a visit for the brunch obsessed, just be sure to make a reservation at least 2 weeks in advance. Don’t say I didn’t warn you!
2. Tatte Bakery & Cafe
- Price: $-$$
- Neighborhood: West End | Dupont Circle
- Address: 1200 New Hampshire Avenue NW Washington, D.C. 20036 | 1301 Connecticut Ave NW Washington, D.C. 20036
- Mimosa Situation: NO MIMOSAS (plan accordingly!)
- Reservation: Doesn’t look like they currently take resis, so plan ahead. I recommend going early.
- COVID Precautions: Outdoor seating
People look at me skeptically when I say this, but I think this Boston transplant is about to make even larger waves in the DC brunch scene post COVID.
This bakery/cafe is the perfect blend between French and Middle Eastern inspired cuisine. You’ll find flaky croissants (the pistachio is ::chef’s kiss::), muffins, and an entire menu of hearty shakshukas. If you’re looking for something on the lighter side, I recommend the Breakfast Boureka. If you are a fan of cardamom, you have got to get the Tatte Latte (cardamom & honey). It’s not too sweet and the flavor combo is unique and absolutely delicious! Check out their menu here.
3. Commissary
- Price: $-$$
- Neighborhood: Logan Circle
- Address: 1443 P St NW, Washington, DC 20005
- Mimosa Situation: Tons of juices to choose from and budget friendly. You can get an entire bottle for $24.
- Reservation: Highly recommended
- COVID Precautions: Many. Click here for their full guidelines. Also a 10% Winter COVID fee will also be changed.
Commissary is a great budget friendly brunch spot that never disappoints. It’s not the most trendy or Instagramable place on this list, but you will leave full and buzzed after playing mixologist with the different mimosa juice combinations. Their menu hits on all the great brunch fare from pancakes to bennies, and even a quinoa bowl. I recommend the Breakfast Panini – it’s as solid as it gets. Check out their menu here.
4. Busboys & Poets
- Price: $$
- Neighborhood: 14th Street | Takoma | Anacostia | Mt. Vernon Triangle | Brookland
- Address: Click to See All Locations
- Mimosa Situation: Available but not specifically listed. I believe they were ~$8/each. They also have a selection of in-house brunch cocktails.
- Reservation: Available but not necessary-this is a fail safe option!
- COVID Precautions: Outdoor seating
People’s opinion on Busboys & Poets can be divided, some love it while others roll their eyes. But neither party can deny that BB&P is a DC landmark restaurant. Not just a restaurant, BB&P serves the DC community through great events like open mic night, and important conversations about topics such as BLM and Immigration. I personally look forward to post-COVID when grabbing a drink at BB&P after work while listening to some live jazz can just be a normal weekday activity again.
Their menu has all of the regular brunch fare and brunch is also served during the week! BB&P’s brunch menu also has a good selection of vegetarian/vegan/gluten-free options as well making this a good option for larger group brunches. Check out their menu here.
5. Mexicue
- Price: $-$$
- Neighborhood: Logan Circle
- Address: 1720 14th St NW, Washington, DC 20009
- Mimosa Situation: $7/each but trust me – you’ll want the Breakfast Margarita ($7/each) instead
- Reservation: Recommended during COVID
- COVID Precautions: Outdoor seating & delivery
If you’re craving Mexican for brunch in DC, you can’t miss Mexicue! This transplant restaurant from NYC is an excellent option, especially if you’re on a budget. The brunch menu is not extensive, but each dish is great – especially the cornbread french toast – SO GOOD! Also lots of brunch cocktail options both alcoholic and nonalcoholic. I’m still a little bitter that they stopped delivering to my apt in Woodley Park, but I’ll let it pass because I’m all about that breakfast marg. Check out their brunch menu here.
6. Medium Rare
- Price: $27.99/per person
- Neighborhood: Cleveland Park | Capitol Hill | Arlington
- Address: Click here to see all locations
- Mimosa Situation: Bottomless mimosas/screwdrivers/bloodies included in the price
- Reservation: Recommended during COVID
- COVID Precautions: Outdoor seating & delivery/take out
Medium Rare has one of the best brunch deals in the DC area. For $28/per person ($26 in Arlington) you’ll get bottomless mimosas, bread, your choice of yogurt/fresh fruit/salad and an entree. This is a great deal if you’re looking for a full brunch on a budget, and during COVID you can get the whole thing for delivery/carryout. Not sure what the mimosa situation is like with take-away, so please let me know in the comments if you just get a bottle or what. Also, please note I haven’t had their brunch in a while, but I personally find the egg poacher they use to be a little weird (it cooks the yolks too firm while the whites are still…jiggly [ew]) but if this has improved, also please let me know!
You can scope their full brunch menu here.
7. Belga Cafe
- Price: $$-$$$
- Neighborhood: Eastern Market
- Address: 514 8th St SE, Washington, DC 20003
- Mimosa Situation: $9.50/each for a regular, and there is an entire bloodies/mimosa menu.
- Reservation: Recommended during COVID
- COVID Precautions: Delivery/take out
First opened in 2004, Belga Cafe is an OG in the DC brunch game. This is an elevated brunch spot that will definitely hit the spot if you’re craving some euro-flair. Belga Cafe’s Belgium inspired dishes include traditional Liege waffles, meats and eggs in puff pastry, and even an omelet stuffed with lobster, shrimp, and crab. Check out their brunch menu here.
8. Little Pearl
- Price: $-$$
- Neighborhood: Eastern Market
- Address: 921 Pennsylvania Ave. SE, Washington, DC 20003
- Mimosa Situation: Not listed, but Little Pearl has an array of take-away drink pouches including a hibiscus margarita.
- Reservation: Recommended during COVID
- COVID Precautions: Outdoor Seating/Delivery/TakeOut
Little Pearl is such a gem. Their menu is not extensive, it definitely has more of a bakery/cafe vibe. But everything I’ve gotten here has been delicious. Aside from the adorable AF carriage house that houses Little Pearl, they have an extensive front yard area with seating that feels like a little park. Few things are better than sitting outside there during the summer sipping on an iced banana latte.
The best part about Little Pearl is that it turns into a wine bar/elevated bistro in the evening! Drinking wine with friends at this spot on warm evenings is also a can’t miss experience.
Check out their DC brunch menu here and the wine bar menu here.
9. Founding Farmers
- Price: $-$$
- Neighborhood: Multi
- Address: Click here to view all locations
- Mimosa Situation: $10/each
- Reservation: Recommended during COVID
- COVID Precautions: Outdoor Seating/Delivery/TakeOut
I remember a time where Founding Farmers was THE place to brunch in DC. It’s status has cooled down a bit over the years, but it’s still a solid brunch spot. This is a great place if you have to satisfy a myriad of different palettes – their menu has something for everyone. Bene’s, beignets, omelets, waffles/pancakes and even a diner styled breakfast plate are included on their semi-extensive menu.
Founding Farmer’s also have a Complete Brunch take-away/delivery option that serves two for $50.
See their full brunch menu here.
10. Diner DC
- Price: $$
- Neighborhood: Adams Morgan
- Address: 2453 18th St NW, Washington, DC 20009
- Mimosa Situation: Not listed, but they have a bar and do serve boozy milkshakes
- Reservation: N/A – recommend take out/delivery
- COVID Precautions: Many – please read their extensive guidelines here.
Another DC OG brunch spot – the Diner is a solid place to brunch in DC with the feel of an old-school diner. Their breakfast potatoes are my absolute favorite of all DC brunch places. Their menu has slimmed down in the past few years which you can browse here. But they still offer well rounded brunch fare. Perhaps one of the most The Diner experiences I have ever had was when I was brunching here and noticed that the guy at the table next to mine was one I shared a very messy make out sesh the night before next two a sticky pool table at Dan’s Cafe.
11. Ted’s Bulletin
- Price: $-$$
- Neighborhood: Multiple (14th Street & Capitol Hill in DC)
- Address: See all locations (including MD & VA) here.
- Mimosa Situation: $9:50/each
- Reservation: Can’t dine in without one.
- COVID Precautions: Outdoor seating, delivery/take out.
Ted’s Bulletin is another diner-style eatery. This place is also a crowd pleaser and good spot to bring visiting parents/family when they visit DC. Ted’s is known for their home made Pop-Tarts which are pretty amazing. I personally prefer their baked goods which are all made in-house, but have no complaints about their entrees. Check out their full brunch menu here.
12. Primrose DC
- Price: $$-$$$
- Neighborhood: Brookland
- Address: 3000 12th St NE, Washington, DC 20017
- Mimosa Situation: $9/glass or $40/1 liter carafe
- Reservation: Can’t dine in without one.
- COVID Precautions: Outdoor seating, delivery/take out.
Primrose is a french-inspired bistro known for their very instagrammable dining room. They recently re-opened with lots of new guidelines to comply with COVID restrictions. Their brunch menu features an array of classic brunch dishes with french flair along with savory-more lunchesque options like the Primrose Burger with onion jam and gruyere. Check out their brunch menu here.
13. A Baked Joint
- Price: $
- Neighborhood: Mount Vernon Triangle
- Address: 3000 12th St NE, Washington, DC 20017
- Mimosa Situation: None currently
- Reservation: N/A
- COVID Precautions: No dining in, delivery/take away only.
A Baked Joint is amazing! Their most popular brunch dish is the biscuit sammy, but if you’re not really into eggs, the sweet potato veggie sandwich is fantastic! Everything is made in-house, and aside from breakfast sandwiches, they offer sweet quick breads like banana and ginger pumpkin, and lighter fare like oatmeal and yogurt with fruit. Brunch in DC at it’s finest here, but you can really go here for any meal! Check out their full menu here.
